The Tobruk
The Tobruk. The Tobruk lines at Holsworthy Barracks are the training ground for Australia's SOCOMD Commandos and supporters. These hats feature Australian DPCU "jellybean" cam donated by a member of the Special Operations Engineer Regiment. SOER supports all SOCOMD units with EOD and CBRN capabilities and operates side by side with the Commando and SAS Regiments.
In April 1941 the Aussies alongside British air and naval support with a small contingent of other Allied forces held the port of Tobruk, Libya from the onslaught of the German Afrika Corps. Under the command of Rommel the Nazi's thought Tobruk would be an easy and isolated sweep, allowing them to gain control of the port. The Rats of Tobruk had other ideas, and despite being heavily outnumbered both on the ground and in the air they withheld the siege for 231 days. They simply refused to die with the Germans suffering triple the casualties of the defending 9th Australian Division. These hats are a tribute to the Rats of Tobruk and all that have served in the ADF.
